Description
The Āraiši lake fortress archaeological park, home to Europe's only reconstruction of a fortified 9th–10th-century lake dwelling, tells pupils in grades 1–4 about the fortress's discovery, its finds and how its people lived. The children then braid a band ornament from yarn and wooden beads, inspired by the wreaths of the ancient Latgalians, and learn what jewellery meant in that society. The lesson is held at the park or brought to the school.
