Description

Latvia's national zoo in Riga's Mežaparks has been open since 1912 and is a member of the European Association of Zoos and Aquaria (EAZA). Lions, lemurs, capybaras, camels, lynxes, birds and many other animals live in outdoor enclosures and heated pavilions, while the Tropical House is home to animals from warm climates. Plan 2–3 hours for your visit. The winter season starts on October 12: ticket offices are open until 16:00, visitors can stay in the zoo until 17:00, and on weekdays after 13:00 there is a cheaper afternoon ticket. On Wednesdays admission is free for seniors with a pensioner's ID, and holders of the Lithuanian “Šeimos kortelė” family card get the family discount. It is easy to get there by tram 11 or bus 9 to the “Mežaparks/ZOO” stop; parking is paid.
