Description
Founded in the fall of 1989, the “Sūduviai” folk ensemble of the Vilkaviškis Cultural Center brings together about thirty members aged 14 to 80. Its repertoire consists of folklore from the Suvalkija region: songs, dances, circle dances, instrumental music, narrative folklore, and minor folklore; most of the pieces were learned directly from the people who passed them down. The ensemble has developed educational programs on Advent, the grain harvest, the hay harvest, Midsummer’s Day, and weaving. The group has represented Lithuania at festivals in Hungary, Croatia, Poland, and Russia, and has participated in the “Baltica” festival in Latvia and the Europade in Klaipėda. The ensemble has been awarded Category II status.
