Description
A theme park in the village of Grūtas, about 5 km from Druskininkai, bringing together Soviet-era monuments taken down from their pedestals after 1990. An outdoor exhibition trail of about 2 km across the 20 ha grounds leads past 86 sculptures, watchtowers and prison-camp motifs recalling the years of occupation and deportation; the park's museums show documents and objects of Soviet ideology. For little ones there is a mini zoo and a Soviet-era children's playground with rides, and a café serves “Soviet” dishes. The park is open daily from 9 a.m., and closing time depends on the month. Audio guides in six languages are available for rent. Plan at least a couple of hours for your visit.
