The Šakiai Cultural Center’s folk dance group “Pynė,” which has been active since 1996, currently brings together about 60 dancers—divided into groups for the very young, children, and teenagers. Its repertoire includes not only Lithuanian folk dances and dances by Lithuanian choreographers, but also dances of the Latvian, Polish, and Russian peoples. In 2014, the group was awarded Category I status as an amateur arts collective, and in 2017, “Pynė” received the “Golden Bird” award from the Lithuanian National Culture Center as the best dance collective. The group has participated in Lithuanian song and dance festivals as well as international festivals in Turkey, Germany, Poland, Slovakia, Ukraine, Latvia, Hungary, and Bulgaria.
