Description

The Ventspils Seaside Open-Air Museum (founded in 1954) tells the story of the fishermen and farmers of the Courland coast: old houses and farm buildings have been moved here, along with a windmill from Užava, fishing boats and a large collection of anchors, and a new building opened in 2024 houses a permanent exhibition on the way of life and nature of Northern Courland. The narrow-gauge train “Mazbānītis” runs through the museum: a 1.4 km loop with a stop by the beach and a 3 km hill line through the seaside park to Adventure Hill. In 2026 the train runs until October 31, then takes a break until the next season. The museum is open all year round; admission is free for preschoolers, and parking is free.
