Formed in 2005, and in 2008 became part of the Vilkaviškis Cultural Center, “Lankupa” sings only songs from the Suvalkija region and performs dances and games traditional to Suvalkija and other regions of Lithuania. Particular attention is paid to traditional clothing—individual costume details are crafted based on examples of clothing from the Vilkaviškis region found in Lithuanian museums. The ensemble organizes educational programs titled “Dance Evenings in Suvalkija” and “Tales and Legends of the Vilkaviškis Region,” and has participated in the Lithuanian Song Festivals and the international folklore festivals “Baltica” and “Atataria lamzdžiai.” Since 2011, dance evenings titled “I Dance as I Know How!” have been held every fall.
