Description
Jaunsardze (Latvian Youth Guard) is Latvia's largest military-patriotic education movement for children and young people, coordinated by the Jaunsardze Center. There are 3 youth guard training groups here: level 2 (grades 7–8), level 3 (grade 9) and a special course. Once a week after school (90 min.), they learn land navigation and map reading, first aid, and the basics of drill, shooting and outdoor survival; on weekends and during school holidays there are hikes, camps and competitions. Children and young people aged 10–21 are accepted with written parental consent – an application form and a participation agreement are filled in; training is free, and every youth guard receives a uniform.
