Dune and viewing platform
Description
A drifting dune about 53 m high on the southern edge of Nida, roughly 1.5 km from the center. From the top you can see the white dunes of the Grobštas Nature Reserve, the Curonian Lagoon and the Baltic Sea, and on a clear day even the sands on the Russian side; it is the only place in Lithuania where the sun rises from the lagoon and sets into the sea. At the top stands a sundial-calendar with a 13.8 m stone obelisk. The dune habitat is very fragile, so you may walk only where it is allowed, and climbing up or down the eastern slopes is prohibited. Visiting is free and not limited in time, and sunsets here are especially popular. When driving into Neringa, a local fee is charged at the Alksnynė checkpoint, and in summer Nida has paid parking zones.
