Description
A 14th–15th-century Gothic red-brick castle on an island in Lake Galvė, reached by wooden bridges. The central palace houses the Trakų istorijos muziejus exhibition on the history of the town of Trakai, its castles and the Trakai land, while the western casemates hold 16 halls of applied art collections: furniture, pipes, clocks, porcelain and glass, and hunting trophies. Events and temporary exhibitions are held in the castle courtyard and halls. A visit usually takes 1.5–2 hours; a guided tour in Lithuanian or a foreign language must be booked in advance. From April to September a combined ticket with Pusiasalio pilis (the Peninsula Castle) is sold. In the cold season the castle is closed on Mondays, and from December to February also on Tuesdays.
