Bread-baking session “The Diligent Make Bread, the Lazy Breed Hardship” – Lithuanian Museum of Ethnography, Rumšiškės

The session takes place in the 19th-century Aukštaitija homestead from Mičiūnai, where the stove has already been fired and the dough left to rise. Participants rake the embers, sweep the oven, shape their own loaf on a cabbage leaf and slide it into the oven with a peel. While the bread bakes there are games and stories about old bread customs, and at the end everyone tastes warm bread with butter and honey and herbal tea.
