Description
Founded in 1987, the “Solčanie” song and dance ensemble of the Šalčininkai District Municipality Cultural Center brings together about 60 members aged 12 to 65 who are dedicated to folk art; The ensemble consists of a choir, a band, and a dance group, and has recently been joined by the children’s group “Mažieji Solčanie.” The group’s goal is to preserve and promote Polish cultural traditions. Its repertoire includes songs, rituals, and customs from the Vilnius region (such as a dramatized rural wedding from the Vilnius region, the Kaziukas Fair), suites from various regions of Poland, and folk dances—the polonaise, mazurka, krakowiak, and kujawiak—as well as Lithuanian, Russian, Belarusian, and Ukrainian songs. Over the course of 30 years of activity, the group has given more than 500 concerts in Lithuania, Poland, Germany, the Czech Republic, Belarus, and Ukraine.
