Jaunsardze Unit

Jaunsardze (Latvian Youth Guard) is Latvia's largest military-patriotic education movement for children and young people, coordinated by the Jaunsardze Center. There are 3 youth guard training groups here: level 2 (grades 7–8), level 4 (grades 10–12) and a special course in orienteering. In weekly 90-minute sessions after school, youth guards learn to navigate in nature and in town, give first aid and act in a crisis, along with the basics of drill and shooting; on weekends they take part in hikes and camps. Children and young people aged 10–21 are accepted with written parental consent – an application form and a participation agreement are filled in; training is free, and every youth guard receives a uniform.
