Description
Bauska Castle stands on a hill at the confluence of the Mūsa and the Mēmele, where the Lielupe begins, near the Lithuanian border and about 12 km from Rundāle Palace. It consists of the ruins of a 15th-century Livonian Order fortress and the residence of the Kettler dukes of Courland, built at the end of the 16th century. The museum has exhibitions on the castle's history and interiors and on the clothing and jewelry of the Duchy of Courland and the castle's defense, and the courtyard holds a collection of 17th-century cast-iron cannons; you can climb the central tower and the viewing platform and take a walk on the landscape trail. The “BAUSKA AR” app shows a virtual duke. A visit takes 1.5–2 hours. Children under 7 get in free.
