On the banks of the Lielupe in Salgale parish stands the family home of Jānis Čakste, the first President of Latvia; a modern exhibition about him and his family opened in the restored servants’ house in 2018. A guided tour takes about an hour, with age-appropriate activities for young children. Visits are by appointment, for a donation.
